Diana Clare (Shrewsbury) Mesch passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Thursday, October 12, 2023. She was born in Iota, Louisiana on December 19, 1944. She spent most of her school years in the Aztec, NM school system but graduated from Wasatch Academy in Mt. Pleasant, Utah in 1962. She proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1963 to 1966 ending with an honorable discharge at the rank of Sargent (E-5). Diana worked for the San Juan County Road Department and Vector Control for 10 years and graduated from San Juan College with an Associates of Arts - Liberal Arts with an emphasis in Social and Behavioral Sciences in 1995. She lived a life of service to others including working as a substitute teacher, taking care of disabled adults and serving as a City Commissioner for the City of Aztec from 2004 to 2012. She was an avid environmentalist and lover of animals.
Diana was preceded in death by Leona Katherine Hoopes (mother), George Hunley Hoopes, (stepfather), Dona and Pete Delzell (stepsister and brother-in-law). She is survived by Roxanna Marie and Vernon Hughes (daughter and son-in-law), Dr. Robert and Laura Shrewsbury (brother and sister-in-law), Elizabeth (Libby) and Joe Burgtorf (niece) and Steve and Pamela Black (nephew).
A celebration of life will be early next spring or summer 2024. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local animal shelter.
